Central Intermediate School

On Friday, April 17, the governor cancelled in person instruction for the remainder of the school year. We know there are a lot of questions our families will have about daily lessons and upcoming events that were scheduled. The Board of Education is sensitive to the needs of our families and we will work to give our students the best education we can under the circumstances. We will be addressing the various issues and communicating to our families through our webpages and Facebook page. Please be sure to check our webpage and Facebook frequently for updates.
Beginning Friday, March 20th, families may use this link to order school lunches for children under 18. This link will be updated with new pick-up dates as they are scheduled. A new google form must be submitted each week to order school lunch.

Dear OES Families,

Due to the unforeseen circumstances our students and families are facing, the Ottawa Elementary School District has put together a plan to ensure students and their siblings ages 18 and under have access to free, nutritious meals during this time when school is not in attendance.  We will be offering meals this week with plans to resume again in the future as needed. No meals will be provided during our scheduled Spring Break.

Families will have the opportunity to receive pick-up meals at one of 3 school buildings in town:  Lincoln Elementary via the Preschool door on Main Street, Jefferson Elementary via the Pencil door on DeLeon Street and Shepherd Middle School via the rear parking lot door.  Students may get meals at whichever of those buildings is closest to their home, not necessarily the building they attend.

For this week, meals will be provided on Tuesday, March 17th(Shamrock Nugget Meal) and again on Thursday, March 19th (Nachos Grande Meal).  On those days, students will be provided 2 lunch meals and 2 breakfast meals to cover the week.

In order to ensure there are enough meals to distribute at each site, we ask that you call in your orders on Tuesday & Thursday between 7:30-9am at 815-433-1133, select the extension of the building you want to pick up from and provide the following information:

1-Number of meals

2-Ages of children

3-Location meals will be picked up

Meals will be available for pick up between the hours of 11am-1pm.  While we ask that you call in ahead of time, we will have some extra meals on hand for those who miss the call-in time.

We ask in advance for your patience as we all work through these trying times.

Check your school or district website for news related to the extension of, and any changes to, the program beyond Spring Break.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Debido a las circunstancias por las que las familias y estudiantes de las escuelas están pasando hemos

Dear Ottawa Elementary Families,
Given the increased attention and focus on the coronavirus in the media, we wanted to share some general information with you regarding this virus. Please click on the following link from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to access information related to the coronavirus:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/summary.html#situation-summary
Here is some of the most recent information concerning corona virus:
  • The health risk to the general public from coronavirus remains low.
  • Currently,  the Illinois Department of Public Heath (IDPH) recommends schools hold classes and events as usual and follow their routine cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
  • Per IDPH guidelines the best way to prevent infection is to take precautions to avoid exposure to the virus, which are similar to the precautions you would take to avoid the flu.
  • IDPH always recommends everyday actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    • Stay home when you are sick.
    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

We will continue to monitor this situation and follow recommendations made to public schools by the CDC, IDPH, and the LaSalle County Health Department.  The District hopes that together we can proactively work to keep all members of the school community safe and healthy.
