What’s happening in Literature and Language Arts? Students are expected to read their Independent Reading (IR) books each night.
Journal prompts are posted under links. Five entries are due for LA hours 6 and 8 on Friday, October 3rd. One entry is due every Friday for 3rd hour unless otherwise noted.

LA: Begin Works Cited for biography project/color code notes due Tuesday—Final project due October 31, 2014
Lit: present book ads/ mysterty vocab game
LA: computer lab for research project
Lit: present book ads/five minute mystery/ Hours 1 and 3will read excerpts from Testing by Joelle Charbonneau
LA: computer lab for research on biography project
Lit: present book ad/vocab preview for “Adventure of the Speckled Band” Hours 1 and 3 will attend author presentation.
LA: adjective intro (1/2 class then) practice presentations for class—one fact for each section of life
Lit: begin reading “Adventure of the Speckled Band”
LA: continue biography presentations (1/2 class) then adjective room activity
8th Grade Language Arts First Quarter —Students will be reviewing parts of speech, sentence patterns, paragraph and essay construction. Students will also engage in biography research.
Important deadline —All journals must be handed in by October 3, 2014.
8th Grade Literature First Quarter— Students will be reviewing elements of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Students will be reading short stories and Civil War related fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.
Important deadline: All independent reading book forms are due by October 17, 2014.
Textbooks are kept in my classroom but can be sent home as needed for assignment completion. Students just need to ask me for one!
