What’s happening in Literature and Language Arts? Students are expected to read their Independent Reading (IR) books each night.
Journal prompts are posted under links. Five entries are due for LA hours 6 and 8 on Friday, October 3rd. One entry is due every Friday for 3rd hour unless otherwise noted.
SEPTEMBER 29 - October 3, 2014
Lit: Civil War poetry “Runagate,” “Harriet Beecher,” Oh, Captain, My Captain”
LA: demonstrative and reflexive pronouns—sentences with antecedents
Lit: Bull Run character analysis
LA: indefinite pronouns and antecedent agreement (sentences)
Lit: Civil War poetry
LA: interrogative and relative pronouns (patterns 17 and 18)
Lit: Civil War readings and analysis
LA: pronoun/noun group challenge
FRIDAY—3rd hour has a journal entry due for LA. 6th and 8th have five entries due October 3rd.
Lit: Silent reading to prepare for book chats on Monday/work on bookmarks
LA: journals due/Writing workshop—revise a daily question based on margin notes and use sentence patterns studied
8th Grade Language Arts First Quarter —Students will be reviewing parts of speech, sentence patterns, paragraph and essay construction. Students will also engage in biography research.
Important deadline —All journals must be handed in by October 3, 2014.
8th Grade Literature First Quarter— Students will be reviewing elements of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Students will be reading short stories and Civil War related fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.
Important deadline: All independent reading book forms are due by October 17, 2014.
Textbooks are kept in my classroom but can be sent home as needed for assignment completion. Students just need to ask me for one!
