Homework

Students are expected to read their Independent Reading (IR) books each night. Fifty pages and writing about the book will be due each Monday for a grade in the Independent Reading category for Literature.

Journal Prompt Sheet Quarter 1:

2nd hour has a journal due Friday, September 30th.

6th and 8th hours have a journal due Thursday, October 6th.

MONDAY:
Lit: Read “Harriet Tubman: Guide to Freedom”/ persuasive paragraph
LA: Pronoun intro (personal/possessive) Quiz Tuesday

TUESDAY:
Lit: “Gettysburg” by Gary Paulsen/letter from Charley
LA: Pronoun quiz—choice of method (sentences with notes/chart without notes)

WEDNESDAY: Students will rotate through four centers (IR, Vocab, Writing, Grammar) during the block and complete different activities in each station. If work is not completed during that time, it is due the next day.

Lit: Centers: Vocab define words and write sentences / Independent Reading: Work on IR signposts, project, or catch up on reading
LA: Centers: Independent Writing/Grammar: Read “Debt of Honor” and write a persuasive response after reading

THURSDAY:
Lit: Civil War poetry (“Runagate, Runagate,” “O Captain, My Captain,” “Harriet Beecher Stowe”)
LA: Pronouns (demonstrative/reflexive)

FRIDAY:
Lit: Finish poetry/review/test
LA: Six word story writing

Late Work Policy

Late work will be accepted, but points will be deducted from the grade. Corrections can be made to any assignments. The original work and corrected work should be returned to the teacher the next school day. Absent work should be completed and turned in as soon as possible.
