Message to Families
11-06-20
As the number of COVID 19 cases are spiking in Illinois and LaSalle County, we are also noticing an increase in the number of individuals who have tested positive or have to be quarantined. This includes staff, students, and family members.
While we have been able to overcome shortfalls in staffing up to this point, our challenges are increasing as COVID numbers grow. We continue to ask our families to monitor symptoms at home and maintain safe practices as outlined by the IDPH.
We are doing our best to monitor the school learning environment in an effort to keep students and staff safe. However, the spread of germs outside of school is completely out of our control and is currently having a negative impact on our operations.
It is our goal to maintain the option of in-person instruction to our families. We do send a word of caution, however, that as COVID numbers are on the increase, we could be forced to make adjustments to our schedule in an effort to reduce the impact of COVID as numbers are skyrocketing. We will continue to monitor the situation and appreciate your continued support of our schools during this pandemic.
Please check our Facebook page and webpages frequently for updates. Sincerely,
Cleve Threadgill

The teachers and other staff members at Ottawa Elementary are very excited to have students back on Wednesday. However, we want to make sure that families understand the new IDPH requirements that were most recently updated on August 13
th. Students will be required to go home more quickly, with less serious symptoms, than in previous years. If a student goes home sick with known COVID-19 symptoms, the school district is now required to send home all the other children who live in that household. A doctor’s note would need to be obtained documenting an alternative diagnosis or a negative COVID-19 test result, otherwise the children in that household would not be able to return for up to 14 days (the initial sick student could return in 10 days). If your child is currently experiencing allergies, or other possible symptoms of COVID-19, please consider contacting your local physician to obtain the documentation that will be required for school. For more information, please see the full IDPH document:
https://www.isbe.net/Documents/IDPH-School-FAQs.pdf
How many symptoms does a person need to have to be considered suspect COVID-19?
Students and staff exhibiting one or more COVID-like symptoms should be immediately isolated, and evaluated. Schools should evaluate each student/staff to determine if this symptom is new or if it is part of an existing condition for this student/staff
If a student is sent home sick with suspected COVID-19 symptoms (e.g., runny nose, fever, diarrhea, etc.), must all their siblings/household members be sent home as well and quarantined for 14 calendar days?
Yes, if one of the household members is being evaluated for COVID-19, the rest of the household must be quarantined until an alternative diagnosis is made or negative result received. If the sick student becomes a confirmed case (i.e., tests positive for COVID-19) or a probable case (i.e., has COVID-like symptoms and is epidemiologically linked to known case), the local health department (LHD) conducting contact tracing will place household contacts, including siblings, in quarantine for 14 calendar days. The health department also will provide guidance on how to safely quarantine and isolated within the household.
