Hello and welcome to speech and language therapy! My name is Mrs. King and this is my eighth year working for Ottawa Elementary School District. I previously worked at Lincoln Preschool. I attended Eastern Illinois University for my bachelor's and master's degrees, but I grew up right here in Ottawa! I am having a blast getting to work with the students, staff, and parents!
I am so Thankful for YOU!
Here we are already to November! Soon it will be Thanksgiving, and before you know it-winter break. This month in speech we will be doing lots of fun fall and Thanksgiving activities in the classroom as well as in small group. During speech small groups as well as in whole class groups we will be reading There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Turkey and Turkey, Turkey, What do You See? as well as naming and describing things we see in fall, answering WH questions, and talking about turkey actions as well as playing Where is Turkey!
- Vocabulary words to talk about and explore with your student include: mashed potatoes, cranberrries, green beans, carrots, pie, turkey, pumpkin, corn, pilgrims, Native Americans.
- We can talk to our students about describing different objects. (e.g., "here is a pumpkin-it is orange, has small seeds, a hard stem, and smooth skin")
- Ask various WH questions such as "Where do we see leaves? How do we make mashed potatoes? What is your favorite food to eat on Thanksgiving?" etc.
- At Thanksgiving dinner, point out all things that start with your student's speech sound. (e.g., if your student is working on the /k/ sound, you might see corn, cranberries, carrots, cookies, etc.)
Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns regarding your student. I will respond as quickly as possible! [email protected] Mrs. Ashlee King, M.S. CCC-SLP/L
