Understanding Cyberbullying
What It Is:
Cyberbullying is bullying that happens online, through social media, text messages, emails, or gaming platforms. It can include sending mean or threatening messages, spreading rumors, posting embarrassing photos or videos, or excluding someone from online groups.
Signs Your Child May Be Experiencing Cyberbullying:
Sudden reluctance to use devices or go online
Appears upset, anxious, or angry after using social media or games
Deletes social media accounts or changes usernames frequently
Avoids friends or school without explanation
How Families Can Help:
Talk Openly: Encourage your child to share what’s happening online without fear of punishment.
Set Boundaries: Establish clear rules about screen time, social media, and online behavior.
Keep Evidence: Save messages, screenshots, or posts if bullying occurs.
Report and Block: Use platform tools to report bullying and block the person responsible.
Contact the School: If cyberbullying affects school life, inform teachers, counselors, or administrators.
💡 Remember: Cyberbullying is just as serious as in-person bullying. Supporting your child and taking action early can prevent it from escalating.
