Congratulations November Champion of the Charter!

Mark your calendars, forms coming home after break:

As we get into winter and the weather gets colder here are some reminders that help us keep our Lincoln students safe:
Arrival
Students may arrive at school starting at 8:00. Student will not be allowed to enter the building prior to this time. Please do not drop your child off at school prior to 8:00 as there will be no staff on duty to supervise them.
When the bell rings at 8:15, students will be brought into the building by Lincoln staff and walked to the classrooms. Once students have entered the building, all school doors will be locked. Any student that arrives after 8:15 should enter the building at the Main Street door and buzz in to the office or the north Leland Street door where staff is stationed until 8:20. After 8:20, students must buzz in at the Main street door and go to the office for a pass to go to class. Students are marked tardy if they are not in their classroom by 8:20.
We do not have staff assigned to any other door, but the north Leland Street door. If your child goes to the Madison Street door, they will not be able to enter.
All parent drop off, (car and walkers) should be on Leland street beginning at 8:00. Just a reminder that we have staff available on Leland to collect students that are dropped off from cars (no need to park and walk your children to the school) and make sure they get to the appropriate morning location safely.
Parents that choose to walk their child to the playground upon arrival (weather permitting), should stay on the sidewalks away from the fence or student line-up areas. At school, students are taught how to appropriately interact with their peers and follow school expectations.
Often students will choose instead to interact with adults that may be near the fence or line up area. It is challenging to ensure the safety of all students when there are many extra adults present. Please keep your child(ren) with you until 8:00.
When there is inclement weather (rain, snow, etc) all children must be dropped off at the north Leland Street entrance, where staff is stationed, in order to enter the school.
Please dress your child(ren) for the cold weather
Remember the Frosty 5! Please make sure your child comes to school in a coat, gloves, hats, pants, socks and appropriate shoes or boots.
During Colder Months, we want to make sure students are getting outside for recess cold air does not make us sick, germs make us sick! We ensure students get outside for recess/ gross motor time. Outdoor recess time allows children to get fresh air, provides an opportunity for children to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity, and gives students more activity options than most indoor spaces. The Office of Student Health and Wellness recommends using 20 degrees with or without windchill as the threshold for keeping students in for recess. However, here at Lincoln Elementary, we will have students play outside for recess on dry days when the weather is above 25 degrees.
Dismissal
If there are any changes in your child’s home transportation you need to contact their assigned teacher AND the office. Per the student handbook: we ask that all transportation adjustments be made by no later than NOON on FULL DAY attendance and 10:00 am on HALF DAY attendance. If transportation changes occur after the cut off time the request may not be honored and the student will then be transported to the location provided in our records.
Students who need to leave with their parent or other assigned adult before normal dismissal times must be signed out in the office, so that each student is accounted for in case of an emergency.
In order to best ensure the safety of our students, all Lincoln playgrounds are closed to non-school personnel from 8:00-3:00. There will be no staff supervision prior to 8:00. Please keep your child with you outside of the fence if you arrive prior to 8:00 or until after 3:00.
Your understanding and flexibility are much appreciated as we work toward the continued safety of all Lincoln students.

Tonight from 4-7pm come on out to Culver's for dinner or dessert. Reminder all the Champion of the Charter kiddos from October come out to be recognized at the board of education meeting at Central school at 6:00pm.

Please see below for more information about bullying.

Even though October is done, at Lincoln we take bullying accusations very seriously. Here are more resources to support families and students.
Five Tips For Parents To Help Prevent Bullying
Parents and guardians are among a school’s best allies in bullying prevention:
1. Talk with and listen to your children every day. Ask questions about their school day, including experiences on the way to and from school, lunch, and recess. Ask about their peers. Children who feel comfortable sharing experiences with their parents before they are involved in bullying are more likely to involve them after.
2. Spend time at school, especially during recess. Schools can lack the resources to provide all students individualized attention during “free” time, like recess. Volunteer to coordinate games and activities that encourage children to interact with their peers.
3. Set a good example. Children are observing when you get angry at a waiter, another driver, etc. Model effective communication techniques, especially when they are present. As Education.com puts it, “Any time you speak to another person in a mean or abusive way, you’re teaching your child that bullying is okay.”
4. Create healthy anti-bullying habits. Starting as young as possible, coach your children on both, what not to do (push, tease, and be mean to others) and what to do (be kind, empathize, and take turns). Also coach your child on what to do if someone is mean to him or to another (get an adult, tell the bully to stop, walk away and ignore the bully).
5. Make sure your child understands that bullying is not okay. Explicitly explain what it is and that it’s not normal or tolerable for them to bully, be bullied, or stand by and watch other kids be bullied.

Honoring all Veterans!
We will be celebrating Veterans Day on Nov. 11th with a Lincoln School Veterans Day program! We will be having a slideshow featuring Lincoln students’ favorite Vets!
If you would like to participate, please send a virtual copy/email to kvandervort@oes141.org of your favorite Veteran, past or present, to put into our slideshow. These photos are very precious and we do not want pictures brought in. If necessary take a photo of the photo and send them in. Please include with the photo the name of your child, the child’s teacher, the name of the Vet and their relationship to the child.
NOTE* If you sent a photo in previous years, Mrs. Ferrari still has it included in the slide show, so you don’t need to send it again unless the information has changed.
PLEASE SEND THESE PHOTOS TO SCHOOL NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH.
More information regarding the program will be coming soon.
We look forward to another wonderful slideshow featuring our favorite Veterans!
