McKinley Families, School will not be in session on Monday, May 26th in observance of Memorial Day. However, OES will be participating in the Memorial Day parade and all McKinley families are welcome to walk in the parade. We will line up at 9:15 a.m. on Madison Street in the parking lot behind the building where The Ottawa Bakery and Gray's School of Dance are located. The parade will begin immediately following the wreath ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and we will walk to Washington Park for the memorial ceremony. We look forward to participating in the parade and ceremony as a district in celebration of those service men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Summer announcement
McKinley 1st grade teamed up with the Ottawa Police Department, LaSalle County Sheriff's Department, and Dunkin Donuts to raise money for Special Olympics. All three classes brought in change for the first few weeks of May to see how much they could collect to support the cause. The students enjoyed bringing in the money and adding it to the classroom buckets. All together the first graders brought in over $300!

Just a note to say that the posted menu lists a lunch meal on Friday, May 16th. That is a half day of school, so no lunch will be served. Breakfast will be served at all buildings, as usual. Sorry for any confusion!

Third grade had a great time at our field trip today!    We started at city hall where we were able to hear from mayor Hasty, and ask him some questions about the job. Then each class took a turn running a mock city council meeting. Every student had a speaking part and they did a great job speaking in front of everyone.    We then walked to Washington park where we were able to see the Lincoln Douglas Statue, which we learned about in social studies. We also had lunch at the park before we headed to BASH.    We end our trip at BASH where students were able to learn more about sushi and how it’s made, learn how to use chopsticks, and even got to try some sushi!    We spent a long time learning about local government and different cultures through our multicultural unit this past month. We had a great day expanding on that knowledge and celebrating all we learned! Thank you to Mayor Hasty and Ms. Stisser for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet with us and show us around City Hall. A huge thank you also goes out to B.A.S.H. for supporting our educational efforts and for donating their time and materials.
